A Rare Case of Achalasia Sigmoid Esophagus Obstructed by Food Bolus

Achalasia is a primary esophageal motility disorder that involves failure of the lower sphincter to relax in response swallowing. Specifically, becomes hypertensive, and there an absence peristalsis esophagus. The pathophysiology thought be due loss inhibitory nerve function from autoimmune attack targets myenteric nerves. As result, these abnormalities lead functional obstruction at gastroesophageal junction. In severe cases, achalasia may present as “sigmoid esophagus,” term used describe dilation distortion cervical this case report, we discuss patient with known history who presented extra-esophageal symptoms including respiratory distress tracheal compression esophagus dilated food impaction. She was found have sigmoid required direct endoscopy removal bolus. We will review pathogenesis well medical surgical approaches treating through other reports.
